The Canadian city of Gatineau is situated on the lower banks of the Ottawa River, across from the city of Ottawa. The city of Gatineau was first founded in the north shore of the Ottawa River in 1800. The city was originally named Wrightstown, before being renamed to Hull, and then ultimately the city of Gatineau in 2002. The city is home to the widely visited Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Casino du Lac-Leamy; as well as festivals such as their popular hot air balloon festivals.
